 CHARITY SHOW

In 2003, a charity show for Tuberculosis patients was organized in Kohima where all the then reigning Northeast beauty queens were invited to walk the ramp. The funds raised from this show benefited a total of 24 patients through this venture. In the following years, NIAPA have worked with HIV/AIDS patients and spreading awareness of the disease, and continues to raise funds for underprivileged children and orphans.

 Kaushal Mela under PMKVY 2.0 at NIAPA

The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) organized its first Kaushal Mela under the Pilot Project of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikash Yojana (PMKVY) 2.0 on 14th Nov 2016 at its Multi-purpose Hall. Dr. T. M. Lotha, Advisor Treasuries & Account, Labour & Employment and Skill Development graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his speech, Dr Lotha said that a large number of youth needs to be mobilized to take up job oriented Skill trainings to become employable and earn their livelihood.He also lauded the initiative for organizing the Kaushal Mela, thus, creating awareness about the central scheme Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY 2.0) and ‘Skill India’ campaign. He also added “People in most of the districts are unaware of such programs meant to skill the youth and therefore such melas should also be conducted in other districts to create more awareness”. While voicing concern over the large youth force who lacked the necessary skills to get employment, he advised the Training Provider to not compromise on the quality of training that were being imparted at the Academy.Special Guest James Swu, SDO (Civil) Dimapur, also speaking at the formal function stressed on pursuing ones passion, to enhance such skills and not merely settle for government jobs out of family or social pressures.NSF Speaker, Joshua Thong Seb in his speech encouraged the gathering to pursue one passion not just as a hobby but enhance the skill to earn their livelihood. While encouraging NIAPAs maiden step for organizing the Kaushal Mela, he also extended full support from the apex student body towards skilling the youth of our region.The program chaired by NIAPA administrator Micheal Achumi, also in his introductory speech updated the gathering about NIAPA as a certified Training Provider, affiliated with the Beauty & Wellness Sector Skill Council (B&WSSC), Gurgaon. And that the Academy is one of the few Training Partners in Dimapur selected by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) for the Pilot Project of Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) 2.0 to ‘Skill India’.As informed by Managing Director, Akuonuo Khezhie, registration for various trainings at NIAPA under PMKVY 2.0 has started; interested candidates can come and apply for the same. The scheme targets high-school/college drop-outs, educated unemployed, or anyone above 18 years of age.

 RENAISSANCE, 2011

On April 15, 2011, Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts organized its inagural fashion show “Renaissance” which was held at Niathu Resort, Dimapur. The launch show was one of the biggest fashion shows, held in Nagaland.

 NORTH EAST MEGA MODEL AND MANHUNT CONTEST, 2004

The first “North East Mega Model and Manhunt Contest” was also organized in the year 2004, at Kohima, with 16 contestants participating from all the states of the Northeast region including Sikkim.

 AIDS AWARENESS, CONCERT, 2005

The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts also organized one of its largest concerts in 2005 by bringing in internationally acclaimed superstar, singer/songwriter, rapper, Jay Sean to feature live in Nagaland. The concert was organized to attract the people of Nagaland, while at the same time to make them aware of the social issues concerning to AIDS. The theme of the concert was “AIDS Awareness”.

 CULTURE IN MOTION I, 2012

The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts has also successfully showcased two seasons of “Culture in Motion” during the Hornbill Festival, Kisama, one of the biggest cultural extravaganza of India. NIAPA organized shows from 3rd – 5th December, 2012; the first day featured a theatrical direction billed “Echoes from the Past” based on the Naga lifestyle and folklore before the entry of Christianity and other foreign influences. The play was enacted by a group of likeminded individuals who came together and formally formed the NIAPA theatrical troupe. On the second day the Annual Hornbill Ball was organized where we inculcated fine dining, ballroom dance and classical music. The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts took the first step to merge the two ideas of fashion and heritage into a cultural movement that would still be relevant and edgy to the masses. As such, on the third night a fashion show was organized where top designers of Northeast India showcased their collections with international and top Indian models walking the ramp. NIAPA also collaborated with FHM magazine for its first venture into the Northeast region of India and to host a party on the last day of NIAPA showcase.

 NIAPA DESIGNERS AWARD, 2013

The first ever NIAPA Designers’ Award was organized in September, 2013, where a total of 20 young and talented designers from Nagaland registered to take part in the competition. The winner Ms. Ikali Sukhalu earned the Golden Ticket to the Big Apple to showcase her collection at the Couture Fashion Week, New York, while the top four finalists were given the opportunity to showcase their collections at the NIAPA show “Culture in Motion” during the Hornbill Festival of 2013.

 CULTURE IN MOTION II, 2013

The second edition of “Culture in Motion” was organized from 5th - 6th December, 2013 during the Hornbill Festival. With a costume parade march by all the Academy staffs and students within the Kisama Heritage village complex on the first day, on the second and final day, NIAPA showcased a series four short plays depicting events from the Nagas traditional past, stories revolving around the warrior culture and head hunting tradition of the Naga people, in the first segment of the show. The second segment of the show was followed by a fashion show, showcasing the collections of talented young Naga designers (top 4 finalists from NIAPA Designers’ Award, 2013).

 COUTURE FASHION WEEK, NEW YORK, FEBRUARY, 2014

The first edition of NIAPA show at Couture Fashion Week, New York, on 15th February 2014, marked our international debut, which was attended by a host of luminaries, press, and exclusive clientele of fashion lovers from all over the world. The Couture Fashion Week does not concentrate only on fashion but cultures of the world. NIAPA seized this opportunity to represent northeast India, thereby, putting a lot of emphasis on the cultural display, and focus on the finalist of the NIAPA Designers’ Award (upcoming designers) debuting at an international platform and top northeastern designers Amritraj Bora (Assam) and Daniel Syiem (Meghalaya). All designers showcased their designs in Eri and Muga silk, a silk indigenous to the northeast Indian region, with inspirations from their tribal heritage. The cultural troop representing NIAPA performed a rendition of a Naga warrior’s story interpreted in the form of a dance. This dance was a fusion which took inspirations from all the tribes of Nagaland.

 NIAPA at ASIAN/ASEAN Fashion Week

The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) have successfully marked its presence felt yet again at an international platform, with its recent participation at the ASIAN/ASEAN Fashion Week (AFW). It was held at Ciputra World, Surabaya city, Indonesia from 15th – 18th August, 2014. With this the AFW commemorated the 4th of its Series under the theme “Bridging the Cultural Exchange” making Fashion a Universal language in Asia. Participant countries included Indonesia, Sri Lanka, India, Russia, Brunei, Cameroon, Nepal, Australia, Bolivia, Mexico, Bangladesh, and Vietnam to name a few. As the sole participant representing India, NIAPA showcased its official clothing brand’s Spring/Summer Collection themed under “Colors of India”, thereby, marking the debut launch of the brand MOI. MOI’s collection at the AFW was inspired by the diverse and vibrant colors that represent India. Focused on promotion of local textiles, its collection infused the local weaves of northeast India and indigenous silk into other readymade fabrics. Other activities during the ASIAN Fashion Week included the “Diversity Night” and welcome dinner to all the participating countries and delegates which was hosted by the Mayor of Surabaya, Mrs. Tri Rismaharini.

 NIAPA "DECADE PLUS 1"

People from the fields of education, business and politics gathered to attend the Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) “Decade Plus 1” founders day celebration on January 21 at NIAPA campus, Dimapur. Speaking at the celebration as special star guest and Member of Parliament, Moon Moon Sen, said she is interested in weaves and had seen beautiful shawls being made in Nagaland and hoped that when Nagaland grows larger the state does not lose its identity with Bengalis, Marwari and other people coming in the state. Sen further hoped that the products from Nagaland will be appreciated globally in a larger rate and conveyed best wishes to the institute. NIAPA advisor, Moji Riba, shared on what NIAPA meant to him and said that in a time when there is a lot of underemployment in the North East region and dependence on government is common that is where NIAPA create an area to provide building of skill development which is a training for the future in terms of beauty, events and music. According to Riba North East is a region known for wrong kind of things but NIAPA’s initiative is like a success story. Riba said at NIAPA young people find space to look for livelihood because if people are employed, people are happy and it reflects in the society. He compared NIAPA as “a light house” when people are looking at a focus to create opportunities. Through NIAPA’s initiative, he said change is happening in small bits and pieces. Other “All Stars” included member of Meghalaya legislative assembly Jemino Maethoh, president Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers’ Union Pele khezhie, founder Livingstone Foundation Higher Secondary School Andrew Ahoto, CEO de Oriental Grand Kevisenuo Shurhozelie and team member of youth net Lezo putsure. The celebration saw performances by Gugs Chishi, Guru Reuben Masangva and Alobo Naga. MOI junior, a collection by NIAPA, was showcased and a theatre piece named “Song of the warrior” based on Naga folklore were presented. Earlier, NIAPA over the past years was presented in a power point presentation. The celebration was marked by unveiling of NIAPA’s monolith by special star guest and vote of thanks was conveyed by Managing Director NIAPA, Akuonuo Khezhie.

 Cannes Fashion Festival 2014

The Northeast India Academy of Performing Arts (NIAPA) aims to bring to light the diverse culture and diversity of India, particularly the North eastern region of India through fashion at various international platforms. Participating at the Cannes Fashion Festival, NIAPA partnered with local designer brand MOI, the winner of its Designers Award, 2014, thereby providing a platform for MOI to showcase the its collection to a global audience. MOI successfully showcased its collection on Friday 22 May, 2015 at The Majestic Barriere, Salon Croisette, 10 Boulevard de la Croisette, Cannes, France. MOI focused its collection on displaying runway creations that distinctly showcases tribal designs and traditional weaves of Northeast India with modern appeal. Fashion pro Carolien Fer Linden, wore one of MOI designs during the show who was one of the show host along with Steffen Morrison. The special event, Cannes Fashion Festival was organized for the first time by Total Prestige Magazine in partnership with the Couture Fashion Week New York alongside the legendary Cannes International Film festival red carpet. The Cannes Fashion Festival added to the glittering glamour that is world renown as the Cannes International Film Festival. The Cannes Fashion Festival, a 3 day event, was organized to celebrate and encourage excellence in fashion, providing opportunities to emerging talents alongside exceptional international fashion designers to an audience of fashion lovers, media and industry insiders. It may be mentioned here that NIAPA in its effort to provide an opportunity for designers all over Northeast India organized the Designers Award on 19 th of December 2014. Out of a total of 25 participants the local designers’ collective brand “MOI” was adjudged the winner and an opportunity to showcase their exclusive collection at the Cannes Fashion Festival in 2015 alongside the very famous red carpeted annual event of Cannes International Film Festival.
